Douglasville residents should pay close attention to their calendars as the holiday season approaches, and not just for festive planning—but to keep track of revised sanitation pick-up dates. The City of Douglasville has announced changes to its Sanitation Holiday Schedule in light of the upcoming Christmas, New Year, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day holidays. According to a notice released by city officials, regular garbage collection services will undergo a temporary reshuffling to accommodate the holiday observances.
For those who will find bins full of wrapping paper and holiday feast remnants, the standard Tuesday (12/24) and Wednesday (12/25) routes are set to be serviced on Thursday, December 26. Consequently, routes normally tended to on Thursday will feel a one-day push to Friday, December 27. While sanitation services are often an overlooked backbone of urban living, this shift in routine necessitates residents' awareness to ensure their holiday discards are properly handled.
The changes continue into the new year, with the scheduled pick-up for Wednesday, January 1, 2025, moved to the following day, Thursday, January 2. And as the nation takes time to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Monday services on January 20 will slide over to Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This dance of dates underscores the ways in which public services gently pivot to respect both historical celebration and the necessity of municipal order.
Public Services has encouraged any resident with questions, or perhaps even uncertainties about when to roll their bins to the curb amid the seasonal shuffle, to get in touch by contacting [email protected]. Adherence to the new schedule will ensure that everyone can enjoy the holidays with one less worry and start the new year with empty bins and clean streets.
