A serious collision between a Jeep and a TRAX train occurred at 700 South West Temple in downtown Salt Lake City, leaving one individual hospitalized. The crash, which occurred yesterday afternoon, has prompted an ongoing investigation by the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Police, as reported by ABC4. The driver of the Jeep sustained severe injuries and was swiftly taken to the hospital, where they remain in serious condition but have been reported stable as of the evening.
Following the impact, which did not injuriously involve train passengers, the SLCPD took to social media to inform the public swiftly. They announced, "We are assisting @RideUTA Police investigate a crash involving a Jeep and a TRAX train at 700 South West Temple," as per a social media post cited by KUTV. The collision implications were immediately felt, intrinsically disrupting the usual fluidity on all TRAX routes. This caused operators to implement a bus bridge to serve the areas impacted by the crash.
UTA announced the collision shortly after 3:15 p.m., alerting riders of the delays and subsequent transit detours. The location of the crash, 700 S. West Temple, became a focal point of the afternoon's roadway and transit disruptions. According to FOX13, all TRAX routes were still affected by the evening, necessitating the bus bridges that connected passengers around the collision's ripple through the city's circulatory transit system
