In a move to restore order and safety to a residential area of East Nashville, the Metro Nashville Police Department’s East Precinct has cleared a property of squatters, turning over control back to the homeowner. The home, located at 108 East Trinity Lane, was reportedly the scene of various criminal activities throughout the year, including a homicide, multiple shootings, and drug deals, as reported by WSMV.
Authorities took action on Monday after collaborating with the owner of the house. The East Precinct not only evacuated the squatters but also installed "No Trespassing" signs around the perimeter of the property to prevent further unlawful occupancy. To encourage community vigilance, the precinct has voiced a plea through social media, stating, "If you live in the area and happened to see anything, please call the police," as mentioned in a post obtained by MNPD East Precinct's Facebook page.
According to WKRN, photos shared by the MNPD East Precinct show the dilapidated conditions inside the home before its clearance. These images underline the challenges law enforcement and property owners face when confronted with illegal squatters and the upkeep complications that can occur as a consequence of prolonged unauthorized use of a property.
