A tragic event unfolded on the 5300 block of North Loop, leading to El Paso's 64th traffic fatality for the year. Sources report a two-vehicle crash that involved a 64-year-old woman making a U-turn and a 2006 Chevy Traverse speeding westbound. According to the City of El Paso, the collision ejected the woman from her car, and despite being rushed to a local hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Local law enforcement is actively seeking information from witnesses. The Special Traffic Investigations unit is looking to piece together the moments leading up to the fatal incident. The driver of the SUV failed to remain on scene, continuing to drive until their vehicle could no further, before fleeing on foot. Investigators urge anyone with information to quickly contact the police at (915) 832-4400 or remain anonymous by reaching out to Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477).
The initial findings suggest that both speed on the part of the Traverse and a failed yield during the U-turn may have contributed to the fatal outcome. This year's traffic-related deaths are marked by this incident, which brings the total to 64, showing a drop from last year's count of 75 at the same time. El Paso's roads bear witness to the grim tally, and this incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of traffic violations.
