
El Paso police are currently investigating a serious incident that occurred on Saturday evening when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 10 East, near the downtown exit. The accident, which caused significant traffic disruptions, happened just after 6:15 p.m., as confirmed by KFOX-TV.
Following the crash, all eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed, creating a backup extending to Shuster as reported by KVIA, this resulted in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announcing an extended closure and detours that impacted the city's traffic deep into the night; the lanes were eventually reopened around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday. After the lengthy investigation that extended into the wee hours of the morning, the lanes were reopened, as stated by KTSM.
Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene to unravel the circumstances leading to the fatal accident, but details regarding the identity of the deceased or the sequence of events that preceded the crash have not been disclosed. The El Paso Police Department has yet, yet to provide specifics about either the victim or the driver involved in the collision as the investigation continues.
