A tragic turn of events unfolded at the intersection of Stevens Creek Blvd and Tyler Street in Santa Clara when a vehicular collision claimed the life of an elderly man and left another in critical condition. On Tuesday, as reported by the Santa Clara Police Department, SCPD officers were dispatched after a distress call was received around 12:19 p.m. about the crash involving an SUV and a pickup truck.
The immediate aftermath presented a somber scene: responding units found the male driver of the SUV lying on the ground while his female companion remained in the passenger seat, trapped in her pain. They were swiftly attended to by the Santa Clara Fire Department personnel, who administered first aid and performed life-saving measures. However, despite their best efforts, the man succumbed to the brutality of his injuries.
The pickup truck driver emerged from the incident unscathed and remained at the scene, aiding the investigation with his cooperation. His 19-year-old passenger, however, was less fortunate and needed hospital care for injuries deemed non-life-threatening. Initial findings by the SCPD suggest that the pickup, heading west on Stevens Creek Blvd, was moving at an accelerated speed and crashed into the SUV as it turned left into a driveway. Intoxication does not appear to be a contributing element in this incident according to the report.
Authorities later identified the deceased as a resident of San Jose, and his name will be released following procedures by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office. The female passenger who battles for her life is also from San Jose. The younger occupants of the pickup truck hail from the same city.
