Tragedy struck South Nashville yesterday when a woman, believed to be 83 years old, was killed in what authorities are calling a hit-and-run incident. As reported by WKRN, the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to a scene at Wingate Avenue near Sunrise Avenue after a resident discovered the victim at approximately 2:30 p.m. The elderly woman was subsequently transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The MNPD has yet to formally identify the victim, though she has been tentatively described as a Nashvillian octogenarian. The authorities are continuing to piece together the events that led to her death to apprehend the individual responsible fully. Further details from the preliminary investigation suggest the woman was struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the location before police arrived. A statement obtained by WSMV corroborated this information.
As the investigation unfolds, MNPD has issued a call for information that might shed light on the incident's circumstances. "Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463," the police department appealed, as noted in FOX17 reporting. Tips leading to an arrest may qualify a caller for a cash reward, and they may remain anonymous.
