
A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of an elderly woman on Wingate Avenue, near Sunrise Avenue. At approximately 2:30 p.m. yesterday, South Precinct officers arrived at the scene following a report from a resident who discovered the woman, believed to be an 83-year-old Nashvillian, injured on the roadway. According to the Nashville Police Department's statement, she was urgently transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries.
While the Medical Examiner endeavors to positively identify her, the Crash Investigation Unit is piecing together the sequence of events that led to her death. It appears that the woman was struck by an unidentified vehicle which did not remain at the scene.
The Nashville community has been asked to contribute any details that might lead to tracking down the driver responsible for this fatal incident. As is standard, the Nashville Police Department implores "Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463." In an attempt to solicit crucial tips, they assure potential informants that anonymity is an option and that valuable contributions might qualify for a cash reward.
