The Elk River School Board election reached its conclusion this past Tuesday with a recount in Sherburne County. After the hand recount, the election night results were held, reaffirming the narrow margin between the two candidates for the third board seat, as reported by Sherburne County.
On election night, Shane Steinbrecher led Shari Knip by just 61 votes, with 15,756 votes to Knip's 15,695. Steinbrecher gained 7 votes, while Knip gained 5, mostly from 'overvoted' ballots, as per Sherburne County. These ballots had initially been dismissed but were included after election judges deemed the voter intent clear.
The recount covered 32,078 ballots from Sherburne and Isanti counties, as detailed by Sherburne County. After seeing no significant changes, Knip chose not to continue the recount in other counties, effectively conceding the race to Steinbrecher.
