After nearly half a century of operation, Los Gatos's beloved Steamer’s Grillhouse has announced its impending closure, marking an end to its presence as a local culinary institution. In a heartfelt message to the community and its patrons, Steamer’s revealed that the final service will be hosted on Christmas Eve, capping off 45 years of shared memories and milestones. The announcement was made through an NBC Bay Area interview with founder Paul Matulich and an Instagram post.
"It would have been nice to go out more on our terms rather than I didn’t envision this ending for this restaurant. Our original goal was 50 years. I’m five short,” Matulich expressed, as per NBC Bay Area. He cited a lease expiration and the building owner's requirements for a costly remodel under a new five-year lease as reasons behind the difficult decision. Steamer’s Grillhouse has long been a fixture in downtown Los Gatos. In this place, the oyster bar, the wine bar, and the familial hospitality fused to create an intimate dining experience.
The owners invite guests to join them in the final weeks for a final toast to the legacy of Steamer’s. Emphasizing their gratitude for the loyalty and support of their staff and patrons alike, the family’s message echoed the overarching sentiment of the many who've passed through their doors.
