In what can only be described as a unique operation, volunteers from the Netarts-Oceanside Fire District sprung into action last night to rescue an endangered Loggerhead sea turtle. The marine reptile, which they've affectionately named "Shorty," found itself in a precarious situation trapped on the rocks at Short Beach.

According to the Netarts-Oceanside Fire District Facebook page, the rescue team was contacted by Oregon State Police to lend their expertise. They employed a specialized webbing stretcher designed by their District Chief to navigate Shorty through the challenging terrain, which was no small feat given the weather and rocky conditions.

Looking beyond the immediacy of the rescue, Shorty's predicament underscores the increasing instances of marine life colliding with human activity. Loggerhead turtles are known for their extensive migratory patterns and sadly, these journeys often end with the animals in areas they are ill-suited to navigate.

Following the successful extraction, the Oregon State Police took on the responsibility of transporting Shorty to a turtle rescue team based in Newport, where it will receive the necessary care to recover from its ordeal. The outpouring of appreciation for the volunteer team on social media stands as a testament to the community's value placed on wildlife conservation. "Thank you Netarts-Oceanside Fire District Volunteers!!!" reads the emphatic close of the Facebook post.
