Escondido Police have released body camera footage regarding the October 2 officer-involved shooting, which has now been made public in a community briefing video. This footage, available for viewing with a warning of discretion advised due to its potentially disturbing content, was shared in a social media post by the Escondido Police Department and uploaded to their YouTube channel yesterday.
Following the events leading up to the shooting, a witness at the Escondido Transit Center reported that at approximately 7:38 pm, a man with a gun prompted an immediate police response. As reported by Hoodline, the encounter began at the 700 block of West Valley Parkway and escalated into a foot chase, resulting in the officer using a firearm. The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was subsequently hospitalized following the incident.
Given the gravity of these incidents, standard protocols dictate that an independent body head the investigation to certify its integrity. Accordingly, the San Diego Police Department has taken over responsibilities for investigating this particular shooting and is also managing any ensuing media inquiries.
