On Wednesday afternoon, officers from the Citywide Drug Control Unit arrested 30-year-old Everett resident Jose Martinez on charges related to drug trafficking in Dorchester. The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation in the area of Dudley Street and Columbia Road. According to the Boston Police Department's report, around 1:00 PM, officers observed a suspicious exchange between several individuals that prompted further intervention.
After witnessing what they believed to be a drug transaction, officers approached two individuals, one of whom was found to be in possession of a plastic bag of Fentanyl and would later be summoned to court. Martinez, the second suspect, was observed quickly to board an MBTA bus, attempting to flee the scene. Police officers managed to follow and subsequently stop the bus at 8 Allstate Road. With support from other responding officers, Martinez was detained.
A search incident to Martinez's arrest led to the discovery of additional drugs, including a plastic bag of Fentanyl, a plastic bag of Crack Cocaine, and fourteen individually wrapped bags of Crack Cocaine. Authorities confirmed that the drugs seized totaled approximately 15 grams of Fentanyl and 23 grams of Crack Cocaine. In addition to the narcotics, officers also recovered roughly $1,440 in cash from Martinez.
As a result of the items found during the search, Martinez now faces serious charges, including Trafficking of Class A Fentanyl, Trafficking of Class B Crack Cocaine, and Distribution of Class A Fentanyl. He is expected to be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court. The arrest reflects local law enforcement's efforts to fight drug trafficking and hold offenders accountable.
