
A family dispute escalated to gunfire in Penrose last night, leaving a man wounded but stable. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers from the 6th District responded to a shooting incident that occurred yesterday in the 4700 block of Lee.
During an argument that took place around 7 p.m., a 54-year-old man was shot in the hand after attempting to disarm his 35-year-old nephew, who was armed. According to a statement obtained by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the older man tried to retrieve the firearm out of his nephew's hand, but during a struggle, the gun discharged, causing injury. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and the victim was transported to a hospital; he is currently listed in stable condition.
The nephew, whom police have not yet publicly identified, has been taken into custody following the incident. Details regarding the argument that led to the shooting have not been disclosed but are expected to be part of the ongoing investigation.
As of now, no charges have been filed. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department continues to gather evidence and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
