A 46-year-old woman, Andrea J. Doering, lost her life in a head-on collision last Thursday in the Woodlawn Neighborhood of Northeast Portland. According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), Doering was travelling in the backseat of a gray 2019 Honda HRV on Northeast Lombard Street when a westbound silver 2003 Honda Accord veered into their lane and caused the fatal crash. The aftermath resulted in the death of Doering and the serious injury of two additional passengers, alongside the driver responsible.

As emergency crews arrived at the intersection of Northeast 13th Avenue and Northeast Lombard Street, they discovered a three-vehicle incident with one fatality and several injuries at about 6:01 p.m. The PPB's preliminary investigation notes that alcohol intoxication may have played a role in the tragic event. The driver of the Accord has been hospitalized with serious injuries, and although not immediately detained due to his medical state, is anticipated to face criminal charges. Struck the HRV head-on, Doering was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police statement highlighted that this incident marks the 64th traffic fatality in Portland for the current year, with as many as eight occurring in the month of November alone. The PPB Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is conducting a full investigation and is asking anyone with information regarding the fatal crash to contact them, referencing case number 24-304990.

While the driver involved in the incident has been hospitalized, criminal charges have yet to be formally filed. The PPB is continuing to piece together the circumstances leading up to the accident and is asking witnesses or those with additional information to step forward and assist in their inquiries. The area around Northeast Lombard Street was closed temporarily between Northeast 11th Avenue and Northeast 15th Avenue during the initial investigation phase, heavily impacting traffic in the neighboring areas. Witnesses who haven't spoken to the police are encouraged to email [email protected], as the search for answers and the community's demand for accountability moves forward in the wake of the tragedy.
