A house fire in the Clinch Valley community near Sneedville last Monday resulted in at least one death. Deputies from the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office responded to the fire on June Lane just after midnight. Despite efforts from the Clinch Valley Fire Department to put out the flames, the house was fully destroyed. A resident was reported missing and is believed to have been inside at the time of the fire, as stated by WATE.
The "lengthy" investigation led to the discovery of human remains in the burned house. WBIR reported that the deceased's identity is still unknown. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the University of Tennessee Anthropology Department, the Hawkins County Highway Department, and the Hawkins County Coroner's Office are all working together to figure out what happened.
According to WVLT, multiple agencies are working together to investigate the fire, especially since it resulted in casualties.
