
A vehicle fire in Northeast Portland claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman earlier today. KPTV reports that Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the incident near Northeast 92nd Avenue and Skidmore Street, where upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered the woman's body inside the burned van.
The deceased, who was houseless, has not been identified pending notification of next of kin authorities said that the cause of the fire is under investigation, but no further details have been released at this time. KOIN also notes that the local community has expressed concern over the incident and are expecting authorities to provide updates.
Authorities transported the body to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death, as the investigation by the Fire Investigation Unit continues. According to KATU, the Portland Fire & Rescue teams cleared the scene after recovering the body and are currently working to piece together the events leading up to the fire.
