Florida Atlantic University's board of trustees is on the cusp of greenlighting a significant deal that will bring a new name to the school's football stadium. CBS News Miami reports that a $22.5 million, 15-year contract with Flagler Credit Union is set to be the most substantial naming rights agreement within the American Athletic Conference for schools with an on-campus stadium. This decision is not only a financial boon but a symbol of faith in the institution's athletic future.
The details of the agreement will be presented by FAU athletic director Brian White in a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday. A news conference is planned to follow the board's discussion, hinting at an impending "significant announcement", though the precise nature of this news was not disclosed in advance by the athletic department. As per the proposed terms, the venue will be renamed Flagler Credit Union Stadium, yet the field will continue to honor Howard Schnellenberger, the late coach who was instrumental in founding the FAU football program.
FAU's recent strides in bolstering its football hierarchy were highlighted earlier this month when they welcomed Zach Kittley as head coach, having inked a five-year deal valued at $6 million, according to The Register-Herald. The deal with Flagler Credit Union extends beyond naming rights, granting the credit union some multimedia rights across football, men's basketball, and women's basketball.
In addition to the rights purchase, an initial investment of $150,000 will be made by FAU for new signage to reflect the stadium's new name. Further costs will be shared between the university and Flagler Credit Union, setting the stage for a partnership that will visibly mark the campus for the coming decade and a half.
