In the early hours of Christmas Eve, a fire erupted within an apartment building in Greenpoint, causing harm to both a firefighter and a resident. As ABC7NY reports, the incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. and originated on the second floor of the building. The resident, injured during the blaze, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The FDNY managed to swiftly contain the flames, bringing the situation under control in under an hour. According to Brooklyn News12, approximately 60 fire and EMS personnel worked diligently on the scene to extinguish the fire. Despite the early hour and the potential for a larger disaster, the quick response time of emergency services helped to prevent a more catastrophic outcome.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no clear indication as to what sparked the hazardous blaze. The incident in Greenpoint occurred merely an hour after another fire was addressed by firefighters in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. In that earlier incident, a vacant home on Shore Road Lane, apparently undergoing renovation, caught fire. That blaze was doused effectively, with no injuries reported, as per the same ABC7NY coverage.
