Five individuals, including three adults and two minors, were apprehended on Friday evening following a series of reports concerning gunshots in Midvale and a subsequent vehicular pursuit involving multiple cities before the suspect's vehicle collided with another car, according to local authorities. As reported by FOX 13, the police responded to reports near 8250 S. Main Street around 7:30 p.m. and encountered the suspects hastening away, this instigated a chase through Sandy, West Jordan, and South Jordan. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but officials said the driver refused to yield, leading officers through a high-speed chase, and, during the pursuit, two handguns were reportedly thrown from the suspect’s vehicle.

According to KSL TV, a forensic team was dispatched post-chase and located at least two firearms or firearm components, the suspects, identified as ‘known gang members’, evaded an initial traffic stop before engaging in a multi-city flight from law enforcement. After initially fleeing the sound of gunshots that alerted police presence, the suspects ultimately crashed on Bangerter Highway, resulting in their capture and causing a wreck with another vehicle.

The Unified Police Department said their officers observed the vehicle, a Black Subaru Legacy, speeding away from the Midvale scene immediately after the shootout, and during the ensuing chase, the vehicle attempted to reenter the highway before crashing into two other cars. News outlet Gephardt Daily reported that Sgt. Aymee Race, the department's public information officer, explained that there were no serious injuries among the occupants of the two vehicles that were struck, saying, "Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle fled," indicating the immediacy of the pursuit after the suspects departed from the initial shootout scene.

Following the collision and arrest of the suspects, Unified Police canvassed the area where the first reports of gunshots were heard, with Race saying, "We currently have officers out in the area near like the Midvale substation, checking residences and businesses to see if anyone was injured or if buildings or property damage occurred," as per Gephardt Daily, highlighted the department's efforts to assess any collateral damage and requested the public's assistance in providing camera footage that might have captured the events around 7:30 p.m. Such collaboration, according to authorities, is crucial in piecing together the chronology of events that led to the chase and the apprehension of the five suspects now in custody.
