Residents and visitors of Fort Lauderdale can once again enjoy the local waterways for recreational activities without apprehension. The city has officially lifted the precautionary water advisory that was put in place earlier this week for Las Olas Isles and parts of the New River. The advisory was prompted by a wastewater discharge discovered on Lido Drive, but recent tests have given the all-clear.

The restrictions were initially implemented on Christmas Day, on Wednesday, following the unfortunate spill into the stormwater system. This development had put a damper on holiday plans for water enthusiasts within the boundaries of Sunrise Key Blvd., SE 7 Street, N. and S. Gordon Rd, Isle of Capri, Isle of Venice and Lido Drive. However, the swift response from the city's environmental team has facilitated a return to normalcy.

According to a statement released by the City of Fort Lauderdale, water quality tests conducted in the affected area have indicated that the levels are now meeting the State's surface water quality standards. This means water-related activities such as swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, and canoeing are safe for the public again.

In an effort to keep residents informed and ensure their safety, the City of Fort Lauderdale advises locals and visitors to stay connected via the Alert FTL system. This free emergency alert service can provide critical updates quickly through phone, text, or email. For more details or to report future issues, residents can contact the City’s 24-hour Customer Service Centre, use the FixItFTL app, or visit the city's website.
