An ongoing investigation is underway following the troubling death of a woman in Fort Pierce over the weekend. Late Saturday night, authorities were called to a home on South 24th Street after a child dialed 911; they arrived to find two children and a man unharmed, but the woman, later identified as Livia Doirin, was deceased, bearing multiple gunshot and stab wounds and with a firearm in her hand, as WPTV detailed.
A resident in the vicinity of the crime scene conveyed to WPTV a palpable sense of fear, stating, “I feel on edge, unsafe,” reflecting a broader sentiment of insecurity in the wake of the incident as she emphasized that it shouldn't have happened and voiced concern over whether the children were witnesses to the tragedy. This has led to calls for an increase in police presence, with hope that it will restore peace of mind, though the neighbor hinted at a perceived neglect by the authorities to prioritize safety in the area since it's not viewed as "a good a neighborhood."
Selma Jerome, a 56-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on different charges, which TCPalm reports include two counts each of kidnap-false imprisonment child under 13 and child neglect without great bodily harm; also, he faces five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and one count of firing a weapon and discharging a firearm in public, at the time there were no charges filed relating to Doirin's death.
The circumstances that led to Doirin's death are still cloudy and while Juliana Walker, a police spokesperson said that the police responded to a call concerning an “unresponsive female,” and despite efforts to revive her, Doirin was pronounced dead at the scene, detailed specifics such as whether her death was a result of a crime have not been disclosed by the police and Selma Jerome's connection to the deceased woman remains an unanswered question as of now. Jerome, who also faces a charge from Indian River County related to failure to pay support, is currently held in the St. Lucie County Jail on a $626,000 bond.
