
A tragic incident occurred early last Saturday when a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in Fremont. According to a social media post from the Fremont Police Department, the collision happened around 5:13 a.m. at Decoto Road and Brookmill Drive. The victim, a 31-year-old male from Hayward, was found lying on the road and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, whose passenger vehicle was eastbound on Decoto Road when the pedestrian was hit while crossing away from a marked crosswalk, has cooperated with the authorities, and alcohol or drugs do not appear to have played a part. This marks the fifteenth fatality on Fremont’s roads this year, with varying locations of the prior events, including nine on city streets, four on state routes, and two on private properties, raising concerns around roadway safety and pedestrian awareness.
Fremont Police's Traffic Investigations Unit is handling the inquiry into this collision's causes and asking for the public's help. "Anyone witnessing the collision or with information regarding this collision, please contact Fremont Police Traffic Unit by calling Fremont Police Department at (510) 790-6760," the department's post stated, also noting that they accept anonymous tips, which can be sent by texting 'Tip FremontPD' followed by the message to 888-777 or through their website.
