
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently leading an inquiry into the death of an inmate at the Appling County Jail. The deceased inmate, identified as 50-year-old Kenny Edwards from Baxley, GA, experienced a medical emergency while incarcerated, prompting this investigation, as announced in a press release.
According to the GBI, the incident occurred on Wednesday, at approximately 8:50 p.m. when jail staff were alerted to an emergency. Despite the efforts of both jail officers and responding EMTs, they could not stabilize Edwards. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital where, despite continued life-saving attempts, he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy to discern the precise cause and manner of death is set to be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler. In the meantime, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Edwards's untimely demise remains active. The GBI is collaborating with the Appling County Sheriff’s Office to uncover more details about the incident.
