The event has been moved to Sunday, December 15, at 2 p.m. due to an unwelcome forecast of steady rain on the originally planned date. As noted in a City of Germantown announcement, the decision was made with an eye on the weather and the comfort of parade-goers.
For those planning their today commutes, just so you know, traffic barricade placement, which began at 8:30 a.m. today, is causing some temporary delays. Affected areas include westbound Farmington Boulevard stretching between Kimbrough Road and Exeter Road and northbound Exeter Road from Farmington Boulevard to the Germantown Athletic Club. Be prepared, as driving through these areas may require additional patience and time.
The rescheduling also affects road closures for the upcoming Sunday. Starting at noon, southbound Kimbrough Road from Wolf River Boulevard to Farmington Boulevard will be closed for the parade entry lineup. Then, at 1:00 p.m., a slew of closures will further interrupt traffic: southbound Kimbrough Road will close from Farmington Boulevard to Pine Valley Lane, both directions of Farmington Boulevard will close from Kimbrough Road to Exeter Road, and Exeter Road itself will close from Farmington Boulevard to Neshoba Road, both directions. I think planning routes in advance is best to avoid these disruptions.
In the case of emergencies, the town has confirmed that access points will be opened immediately for emergency vehicles to navigate closed roads. Following the parade's conclusion, these routes will be progressively reopened to the public.
