Residents in Glendale, brace yourselves for a swift changeover in your waste management services as we usher out the old year. In a transition set to streamline the rubbish and recycling duties in the city, there looms a collective shift of providers, from GFL to John's Disposal. This change will see your current bins collected for the last time by GFL during the weeks of December 22 or December 29—so keep a vigilant eye on those collection dates, as reported by the City of Glendale.
According to a news release from the City of Glendale official website, the baton pass has already commenced, with John’s Disposal distributing the new refuse and recycling carts starting December 9th. It's crucial, however, that residents do not switch to the new bins immediately. Instead, the city implores everyone to continue using GFL cans until the very last pickup. Echoing the wise advice of our elders—who often counsel patience during times of change—the new bins may initially appear uncooperative with their lids refusing to shut properly. "If the lid on your new bins does not close, give it a few days to settle," the official statement advises, a simple yet effective remedy for those experiencing this minor hiccup.
For residents whose needs aren't met by the one-size-fits-all approach of the larger bin provision, John's Disposal welcomes contact for a bin size more fitting to their requirements. For any exchange or additional bin requests, residents have been directed to call John’s Disposal at (262) 473-4700.
The final pick-up by GFL and the subsequent delivery of the new carts may catch some citizens amidst the bustle of the holiday season, a time when homes are as empty as the winter streets. But fear not, for community prevails, "If the exchange/drop off is occurring when you’re not available, make arrangements with a neighbor, friend or family member," as the City of Glendale announcement proclaimed. Anticipation does build before the arrival of the New Year, but John's Disposal's first collection round waits for the dawn of January 2025.
