Feeling the post-Christmas blues? If you're ready to de-deck the halls and reclaim your living space, Douglas County has a solution that's as green as your now-browning Christmas fir. Instead of kicking it to the curb, residents can recycle their Christmas trees at several locations across the county, services that are available through January 31, 2025.
According to Douglas County, the county's recycling program is not just about being environmentally responsible, but it also comes with a perk, free mulch for the taking. Locations such as Bayou Gulch on Fox Sparrow Road and the Fairgrounds Regional Park in Castle Rock are up and running for drop-offs, the service is available at all hours to cater to every schedule, therefore giving no excuse not to participate when it's finally time to let go of this year's symbol of Yuletide cheer.
Recycling is easy, but before bringing your tree to one of the designated recycling sites, Douglas County asks that you strip your tree of all decorations. That means ornaments, lights, tinsel, garland, plastic wrap, and especially the tree stand, should be removed. And while faux snow might look dreamy on branches, trees sprayed with artificial snow can't be recycled, so leave those out of the pile.
