The Gordon County Sheriff's Office reported that a suspicious vehicle was pulled over on U.S. Highway 41 near Resaca late this past week, whereupon the deputies discovered large quantities of drugs and firearms.
The encounter with the vehicle occurred around midnight, and the traffic stop developed rapidly into a significant bust. The three suspects, taken into custody without incident, have been identified by authorities. Margie Russell, a 50-year-old Calhoun resident with a notable criminal track record, Cody Anderson, a 33-year-old from Dalton, and Kelly Parks, 42, of Sugar Valley, were the individuals apprehended, as stated in the report by FOX5 Atlanta.
Each suspect now faces a swath of serious charges, including drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, and weapons violations. Russell, in particular, has accumulated a somewhat extensive history of at least 30 prior arrests in the area. In addition, at the time of this latest arrest, she was already sought on theft-related warrants, rendering her a fugitive from justice. Adding to her legal troubles, Russell is also facing additional charges of bringing drugs across a jail guard line, according to information obtained by Coosa Valley News.
