Gwinnett County's newly elected officials are lining up to take their official oaths this December, with a series of swearing-in ceremonies that are open to media coverage.
According to a notification published by the county, the roster of public servants includes Commissioner Kirkland Carden of District 1, who is set to quickly begin his term following an oath-taking ceremony at the Historic Gwinnett Courthouse in Lawrenceville tomorrow, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. His counterpart, Commissioner Jasper Watkins III, will follow suite shortly with his own ceremony on Monday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m., at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Auditorium.
Just hours prior to Commissioner Carden's scheduled ceremony, Superior Court Judge Kimberly A. Gallant will have already stepped into her role, with a swearing-in at the same courthouse earlier today, Dec. 17, at four in the afternoon. District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson is also on the docket for an evening event on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. but at a different venue—The Maison Event Center in Duluth. Meanwhile, Tax Commissioner Denise R. Mitchell is set to take her oath later on Monday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m., returning action to the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Auditorium.
