Outdoor fans and nature lovers in Noblesville have something big to be happy about. The Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department announced a sizable addition to Potter's Bridge Park. As reported by Hamilton County officials, they have acquired an extra 50.85 acres of land. This expansion increases the park's footprint to more than 125 acres, which is part of a concerted effort to preserve open space and boost recreational activities in the area.
Already a popular spot due to the historic covered bridge built in 1871, Potter’s Bridge Park sits along the White River. The newly expanded park, as said by the county, will stitch together previously separated parcels, opening up about 20 acres previously not available to the public. Families already flock to the park for its playground, fishing spots, and trails, and those keen on paddling can access the river for canoeing and kayaking escapades.
In addition to enhancing recreation, the park's newly acquired land includes about 10 acres of riparian buffer, now designated for protection. This is crucial for maintaining the health of the White River ecosystem. "This acquisition allows us to fill a critical gap, creating a more connected and cohesive space at this park," Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Director Chris Stice told Hamilton County officials. This move aligns with the goals of their five-year master plan, which focuses on sustainability, expanding outdoor options, and improving access to natural settings for the community.
Hamilton County Parks and Recreation prides itself on curating spaces for the enjoyment and benefit of all citizens. With the park now further established as a prime hub for community engagement, the department calls on those with a mind to support this vision.
