In a routine sideshow enforcement operation, Hayward Police officers made a significant discovery after pulling over a vehicle for moving violations, as reported by the department's official social media post. The traffic stop evolved into a drug and firearms case when the officers noted the scent of marijuana, which led them to find both unsealed cannabis and a hidden, loaded stolen handgun in the vehicle.
Under California law, it is legal to possess marijuana; however, consumption within a vehicle remains prohibited. Regulations require the substance to be transported, sealed, or stored away in the trunk.
Upon further investigation by the Hayward Police, the handgun was identified as stolen, compounding the driver's legal troubles with multiple weapons violations that led to the driver's arrest.
