This past weekend, a routine traffic stop conducted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Hayward escalated into a high-speed pursuit, culminating in a multi-agency operation. The incident began when the CHP's Regional Sideshow Enforcement Task Force attempted to stop a white Camaro for a mechanical violation. The driver, however, chose to flee the scene, prompting a pursuit through Oakland that involved CHP's aerial support unit, ALCO Air.
According to a statement on CHP-Hayward's social media account, the chase concluded at a residence where the vehicle was located. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the Hayward Police Department, collaborated to apprehend the suspect.
Further investigation at the scene uncovered additional criminal activity. Officers discovered a stolen black Honda Accord parked in the driveway alongside the Camaro. Moreover, a handgun, reportedly discarded by the suspect, was retrieved near the residence. The firearm was confirmed to be stolen.
The apprehended individual was found in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. In addition, the suspect had outstanding warrants related to previous charges of vehicle theft and possession of a firearm by a felon.
