Jacksonville residents might see a bit of relief from the recent heat as the weather takes a cooler turn today, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). While the morning started mostly cloudy with an almost saturated humidity level, the city is likely to experience a change of pace with the temperature expected to rise to a near comfortable 79 degrees. A light south wind will pick up between 8 to 13 mph, with the potential for gusts reaching up to 20 mph.
The forecast, however, brings showers likely after the early hours of tomorrow, precisely after 5 am. The NWS predicts "mostly cloudy, with a low around 66," conditions facilitating a 60% chance of precipitation, which could result in new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch. Slight discomfort may follow as the accompanying south wind moves at 6 to 11 mph, with, gusts occasionally hitting as high as 17 mph.
Wednesday's weather escalates with showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, anticipated before 1 pm, then a subsequent chance of lighter showers. The temperature is expected to peak at 72 degrees early before plummeting to around 59 in the afternoon when a windy condition takes over – a south wind shifting northwest at 16 to 21 mph could produce gusts topping 31 mph. The NWS reports a 90% chance of precipitation with rainfall possibly measuring between a quarter and half an inch.
Looking further ahead, Jacksonville can expect a chilly Wednesday night with "patchy frost after 4am," indicates the NWS. Indeed, mostly clear skies will prevail but not without a brisk northwest wind blowing at 11 to 16 mph, with the occasional gust up to 24 mph. A similar pattern follows on Thursday with "patchy frost before 8am" and a sunny outlook for the rest of the day, pushing highs to near 58 degrees with gusts as strong as 21 mph.
As we proceed towards the weekend, conditions seem to mellow out, with Jacksonville anticipating partly sunny to mostly sunny skies and highs gradually rising from the upper 50s to the lower 70s. Windy spells could continue to sweep the area on Friday and Saturday, but overall, the city is in for some relatively pleasant weather following this bout of unpredictability.
