San Diego's business landscape is set for a significant transition as Jerry Sanders, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, plans to retire at year's end after 12 impactful years at the helm. As the torch passes, Jessica Anderson prepares to take over as interim President and CEO beginning January 1, 2025, stepping in to maintain continuity as the Chamber searches for a permanent replacement.

Sanders' retirement comes after a lengthy tenure marked by growth and increased political presence within the Chamber. "Leading the Chamber has been such a privilege, and I am very proud of all that we’ve accomplished," Sanders expressed, reflecting on his time leading the organization, according to a statement released by the SDChamber. Under his guidance, the Chamber expanded its influence, supporting the region's businesses in their interactions with government and affiliates across the Cali-Baja expanse.

In a social media post, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria paid homage to Sanders, crediting his leadership for strengthening the local economy and aiding innumerable small businesses. Jerry has been a great partner and I wish him the very best in retirement, Gloria wrote. The mayor also lauded Anderson as Sanders’ interim successor: "She is one of the smartest and hardest working people I've ever met," stated Gloria in a Twitter post. The confidence bestowed by Gloria speaks to the expectation for a seamless transition in leadership for the influential business advocacy group.

The Regional Chamber’s Management Council, functioning as the CEO Selection Committee, pledges a thorough, equitable search for the Chamber's next President and CEO with an appointment anticipated by February 27, 2025. Sanders’ legacy will be celebrated, and his service will be commemorated with the Chamber’s highest accolade, the Herb Klein Spirit of San Diego lifetime achievement award, at the organization’s Anniversary Celebration on the same date. Chris Howard, incoming Chamber Board Chair, CEO & President of Sharp HealthCare, endorsed this view. "The foundation Jerry has built positions the Chamber for much continued success in the years to come," he told the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.
