Grant County in Oregon witnessed a somber start to its day on Tuesday when a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a John Day resident. According to the Oregon State Police, the incident occurred around 8:06 a.m. on Hwy 26, near milepost 128.
The preliminary report by authorities details that Anthony Montague, aged 62, lost control of his westbound Ford Crown Victoria during a passing maneuver. The vehicle veered off the road, descended an embankment, and tragically culminated its abrupt journey by shearing a power pole at the base and rolling onto its top. Montague was declared deceased at the scene of the accident.
While the highway remained open to traffic during the investigation, law enforcement and emergency response teams were present to manage the situation. The Oregon State Police spearheaded the on-scene investigation, and were assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
