A tragic incident unfolded in Discovery Bay when a juvenile driver crashed into a security building, resulting in the death of one guard and serious injuries to another. The California Highway Patrol Contra Costa reports that the accident occurred late last Friday when a gray Hyundai Santa Cruz veered off the road and collided with the security structure.

According to the CHP Contra Costa, the vehicle left the roadway after crossing the Bixler Road intersection. It traversed the raised divider, directly causing it to plow into the building that two security guards occupied. Following the incident, the juvenile was treated for suspected minor injuries and later taken into custody, being charged with vehicular manslaughter.

CHP's Contra Costa Area office team responded to the crash around 11:58 PM. In a scenario that continues to raise questions about how the juvenile lost control of the vehicle, "The vehicle then traveled over the raised divider island and collided with the security building," said the CHP Contra Costa statement. The second guard was reportedly transported to the hospital with major injuries, while the driver's condition was not considered life-threatening.

While investigating the circumstances behind the accident, CHP ruled out impaired driving as a contributing factor.
