The Texas A&M Transportation Institute's annual congestion report shows that Katy-area roads remain some of the most congested in Texas. The I-10 stretch between the Grand Parkway and North Eldridge Parkway ranked 28th, while the Grand Parkway from South Fry Road to Morton Ranch Road ranked 61st. Both areas have seen worse traffic compared to last year, as reported by ABC13.

A Texas A&M study, commissioned by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to address growing traffic congestion, shows that efforts to reduce delays have helped cut traffic slowdowns by 7% since 2019. This is despite a 7% increase in the number of miles driven statewide. While some areas have seen improvements, easing congestion and saving time, traffic on I-10 and the Grand Parkway in Katy has actually gotten worse, as stated by ABC13.

Traffic congestion in Houston is a major issue, with I-10 causing over 3.63 million hours of delays and wasting 781,713 gallons of fuel annually, while the Grand Parkway contributes to 1.48 million hours of lost time and 281,314 gallons of fuel burned. Houston has half of Texas' top 10 most congested roads, and Loop 610 remains the most congested for the fourth consecutive year. To help alleviate this, two projects are underway to widen parts of the Grand Parkway, with completion expected by September 2025, according to Houston Chronicle.
