Two men found themselves behind bars following a stolen vehicle pursuit that ended with a car crash in Dania Beach, according to law enforcement sources. The Lauderhill Police Department, in collaboration with the Broward Sheriff's Office, apprehended 22-year-old Isaac King II and 20-year-old Terrance Thornton following their attempt to flee from a traffic stop early yesterday morning.
The chase commenced around 3 a.m. when police spotted the suspects in a stolen Toyota Tundra near 3100 W. Sunrise Blvd., with Lauderhill Police making the initial identification and the Broward Sheriff's Office aviation unit joining in to aid the attempted stop, as CBS Miami reported. Upon trying to pull the vehicle over on I-95 and Griffin Road, the suspects' abrupt decision to flee precipitated a short chase which concluded with a collision with another vehicle, the specifics of the aftermath, including possible injuries, were not immediately clear at the time.
Officials have charged King with grand theft auto, fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting arrest without violence. And while Thornton was not charged at the scene, it was later discovered he had "multiple active felony warrants," as stated by Lauderhill Police, though they did not specify what the warrants pertained to, as NBC Miami detailed in their coverage.
Following the crash, both King and Thornton reportedly abandoned the damaged Tundra and attempted to escape on foot, but law enforcement was quick to respond, leading to their capture and subsequent detainment. They are currently being held at Broward County Main Jail, King's apparent leadership in the incident attributed to the vehicular theft and subsequent hazardous flight that now compounds his legal trouble.
