A 14-year-old student from Lemon Grove Academy Middle School has been questioned after being suspected of bringing a BB gun to school, as reported on the San Diego County Sheriff's Office website. According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident came to light on December 16 when school administrators were informed that another student was seen with what appeared to be a firearm in his backpack the previous Friday.
Upon being notified yesterday, the school staff promptly investigated the situation and contacted the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation. During initial investigations, detectives contacted both the student and their parents. It was revealed that the supposedly threatening object was a plastic BB gun, which the student had shown to classmates. The item was seized without any ensuing incident. There currently appear to be no known threats to Lemon Grove Academy Middle School students following this event.
The nature of the incident has prompted reminders about how important these matters are. "The safety of our school children is a priority for the Sheriff's Office. We take all threats seriously," the San Diego County Sheriff's Office reaffirms. The community is urged to report any threats or potential violence directly to school staff or through the anonymized Student Speaking Out Hotline.
