A fatal collision occurred on Louisiana Highway 24 near Terminal Road in Terrebonne Parish, tragically resulting in the death of a local man. According to a report by Louisiana State Police, the incident involved two vehicles and happened shortly after 9:00 a.m. yesterday. The victim was identified as 35-year-old Yassir Parrales from Chauvin.
Investigators found that 25-year-old Kali Lirette was driving a 2019 Ford EcoSport northbound and Parrales was approaching in a southbound 2018 Nissan Altima. For reasons yet to be determined, Lirette's vehicle crossed the median line while attempting to properly navigate a right curve, subsequently causing a head-on collision with Parrales’ Altima. Parrales, who was using his seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lirette, also restrained, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital out of the area for treatment.
The Louisiana State Police collected standard toxicology samples from both drivers to further analyze whether impairments could have played a role in the crash, though results are still pending. The investigation is ongoing to shed light on the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event.
