A small aircraft encountered mechanical difficulties and crashed near Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona, last Thursday afternoon. The incident has been confirmed by Mesa Fire Department officials who specified that, after facing what appeared to be an engine failure, the pilot endeavored to hastily maneuver the craft back to the airport. Unable to secure the necessary altitude, the decision was swiftly made to land on an adjacent dirt road amidst the orange groves.
According to details released by the Mesa Fire Department and reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, "The pilot attempted to turn back to the airfield. It was determined the aircraft did not have enough altitude to accomplish this and the pilot elected to put the plane down on a dirt road in the nearby orange groves. The plane touched down, struck a tree stump and spun around, suffering heavy damage."
Remarkably, both the pilot and an additional person who was on board managed to extract themselves from the wreckage. Mesa Fire officials confirmed that the fortunate outcome involved "no fire and no injuries".
Mesa Police are currently looking into the specifics of what led up to the crash. The information was further substantiated by ABC15, which reported that the two individuals "were able to exit safely on their own. Neither was hospitalized."
