The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has reported its 16th officer-involved shooting of the year. The incident took place at the South Point Hotel and Casino over the weekend, resulting in the death of a man after a confrontation with a SWAT officer. Officer Zachary Adam, who has been with the department since 2006, was identified as the officer who fired the fatal shot, as stated by News 3 Las Vegas.
Last Sunday, police responded to a report of a suicidal man at a hotel. After hours of negotiation, 26-year-old Cesar Reyes II from Indio, California, charged at officers with a gun. He didn't follow orders to drop the weapon, and officers shot him. His death was ruled a homicide. The officer involved has been placed on paid leave while the incident is investigated, as reported by KTNV.
Captain Kurt McKenzie said, "The male charged towards officers, causing an officer to discharge his weapon, striking the male." After the shooting, police found a second firearm on Reyes II. This is the fourth officer-involved shooting in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department jurisdiction in less than a month. The department will provide more details later this week and is working with the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa, which is cooperating with the investigation, according to Hoodline.
