A man has been detained after a road rage incident on Interstate 240 led to a shooting, according to Memphis authorities. As reported by Action News 5, 36-year-old Leby Garcia is facing multiple charges, including the attempted first-degree murder with a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony. The situation unfolded yesterday afternoon near Perkins Road when a driver, in a red Infiniti G35, alleged that a red Chevrolet Suburban with a trailer driven by Garcia nearly collided with his car and when he confronted the driver by yelling, " Yo man, you good, you almost hit me", Garcia pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.
Following the near collision and the subsequent discharge of the firearm, the driver of the Infiniti attempted to escape, initiating a pursuit off the I-240 at the Summer Avenue exit, in this time the victim was able to call the police and provide a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle during this ordeal, as WREG notes. Officers later located Garcia's vehicle at a residence on Barsanti Street, where he was apprehended in the backyard further, the victim identified Garcia as the shooter leading to his arrest and the subsequent criminal charges he now faces.
Garcia, who allegedly retrieved a black handgun with an extended clip to fire upon the other driver, did not hit the victim with the gunfire, a detail underscored by reports from FOX13 Memphis. His charges encompass criminal attempt reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm dangerous felony, the police have indicated that Garcia was taken to the Violent Crime Unit before being booked into jail.
The accused is expected in court on Wednesday morning to face the repercussions of his actions, though the specific details of the court procedures remain to be seen.
