
A man using an electric wheelchair was fatally struck by a dump truck early Thursday morning in Cobb County. The tragic incident took place on Cobb Parkway near North Shores Road in Acworth, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Cobb County Police Department's S.T.E.P. Unit, which is supporting Acworth police with the investigation, stated that the collision happened around 6:03 a.m.
Traveling in the right northbound lane of Cobb Parkway, for reasons undetermined, the man in the wheelchair fell onto the road. The dump truck, which was a red 2024 Mack Granite and also northbound, subsequently collided with him, according to details provided by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The impact sent the man moving northward, having come to rest within the confines of that lane.
Authorities at the scene pronounced the man deceased. The truck driver, who remained unharmed, managed to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop following the incident. The identity of the person in the wheelchair has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
As the investigation continues, police have not been able to ascertain why the man was using his wheelchair on the road and have made calls to the public for any information.
