A St. Francois County jail inmate's attempt to smuggle drugs has led to a 16-year prison sentence for Garry W. Triplett, 38. Triplett pleaded guilty to drug distribution charges connected to the death of another inmate.

The U.S. Attorney's Office revealed that Triplett supplied fentanyl and methamphetamine to Timothy L. Noll, a 35-year-old inmate. Noll had an intermediary pick up the drugs, hidden in a Bible, and pass them to his cellmate before Noll’s transfer to state prison. Two days later, the cellmate died from an overdose.

Noll, also facing charges, pleaded guilty to drug distribution. The U.S. Attorney's Office reported that the conspiracy led to Noll's cellmate dying from mixed drug intoxication, including a fatal dose of fentanyl.

The case was uncovered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zachary Bluestone.
