A Maricopa County massage therapist has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of sexual abuse, County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced. Raul Ochoa, who worked at day spas in Queen Creek and Gilbert, was convicted of inappropriately touching multiple women during massage sessions between May 2022 and February 2023. According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office announcement, these actions have resulted in long-term psychological trauma for the victims.
In court, victims reported enduring nightmares and ongoing distress following their encounters with Ochoa. Ochoa, whose birth record is June 1977, faced multiple charges: one count of attempted sexual assault, a Class Three Felony; two counts of sexual abuse, Class Five Felonies; and one count of assault with sexual motivation, a Class Three Misdemeanor. Despite the horrific nature of these allegations, it is reported that the survivors bravely came forward, which played a crucial role in the case against him.
The sentence follows a plea agreement in which Ochoa admitted to his crimes. "This defendant took advantage of these women who had placed their trust in him," Mitchell told the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, highlighting the gravity of the betrayal. The actions of the survivors in speaking out against Ochoa have been commended by the county attorney's office, as their courage ensured both justice and the prevention of further harm by Ochoa.
