The City of Marietta's Human Resources and Risk Management Department has garnered a prestigious accolade from the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association, securing the Large City Agency Award of Excellence. This laurel is a testament to the department's strides toward improving the lives of its city employees and retired workers through a suite of well-crafted health and well-being programs.
Consistently pushing the envelope, the Human Resources and Risk Management Department has set a high bar with its range of innovative programs. Their initiatives, which include an Annual Employee Health Fair, Wellstar City of Marietta Employee Clinic, and proactive health screenings have not just been beneficial, but transformative. They have reduced healthcare costs for the City and, improved morale, among employees and retirees alike.
Bill Bruton, Jr., the City Manager of Marietta, illuminated the department's commitment to their craft in a statement obtained by the city's official site: "This award is a deserved recognition of the efforts of our human resources team," he said. "They do so much for all our employees and retirees. It’s amazing to see the way they care about our people and make our lives better through creative wellness resources and education."
Fulfilling its mission, the department also tackles financial health with initiatives such as Financial Wellness Week and mental well-being through tools like The Calm App. A particular dedication to supporting personal crises can be seen through the Employee Assistance Fund and Program, which offers employees a lifeline when most needed. For police officers and firefighters, a Dedicated Wellness Officer is available providing specialized support and expanded counseling services, ensuring no aspect of employee health is left to chance.
Since its inception in 1975, the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association has consistently underscored the importance of professional personnel practices. Through awards and recognitions, GLGPA elevates departments such as Marietta's, which excel in fostering a nurturing environment for their employees, ultimately raising the standard across local governments in Georgia.
