After an impressive tenure stretching over three decades, Stephanie V. Daniels, the director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, has decided to retire. Daniels, who embarked on her path with the department 32 years ago, made her retirement public through a social media announcement today. As per WSVN, she stated, “Together, we’ve navigated challenges, celebrated victories, and most importantly made a lasting impact on the lives of those we served.” She added, "This isn’t a goodbye, it’s just a transition into a new role where I will continue cheering you from afar."
The milestone does not just mark the end of a chapter for Daniels but also commemorates her historical role as the first female director in the department’s history. Taking over her duties will be Sheriff-elect Rosie Cordero-Stutz, who boasts the title of the department's first sheriff in six decades, winning the election last month as the republican nominee, per the aforementioned WSVN report. Daniels’ retirement is poised to be the beginning of a new era for the department.
Not only has her retirement been the talk of the town, but Daniels has also been distinguished with a Proclamation by the Board of County Commissioners. In a demonstration of gratitude for her decades of service both to the department and the community, the honor highlights Daniels' steadfast commitment and exemplary leadership. "Today, we proudly celebrate her unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and countless contributions," the Miami-Dade Police Department posted, alongside the hashtag #MDPDproud. This salute was echoed in a statement they shared, found on the department's social media.
