A City of Miami Police lieutenant, previously an assistant chief of police, has been accused of domestic violence after an incident involving his wife. Lt. Thomas Carroll, 47, faces charges after his arrest last Saturday. The allegation, according to an arrest report obtained by CBS News, details that Carroll spat at his wife "approximately 10 times" during an argument and "slapped her twice in the face."

The altercation reportedly stems from a disagreement the couple had the previous night. Carroll's wife subsequently ran out of their home and contacted the police at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to WSVN, two witnesses provided sworn statements backing the victim's account of the events.

Following the incident, Carroll was relieved of his duties pending further investigation. Miami PD Assistant Chief of Police, Armando Aguilar, told NBC Miami, "The Miami Police Department is committed to serving victims of domestic violence and holding the perpetrators of such crimes accountable for their actions. When acts of domestic violence are perpetrated by law enforcement officers, they are especially disheartening, as they represent a breach of the sacred trust placed in us by the people we serve."

"We wish to thank the victim and witnesses in this case for coming forward. We are committed to ensuring that a thorough investigation is conducted and that the victim receives all necessary support throughout this process," said Aguilar in a statement obtained by NBC Miami.

Carroll, a lieutenant in the police department's Field Operations Division since 2023, was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after posting a $1,000 bond.
