A community sigh of relief as Michael Sermons, the 73-year-old man with Alzheimer’s who was reported missing in Atlantic Beach, has been found safe, according to the local authorities. The Atlantic Beach Police Department had launched an appeal for public assistance after Sermons was last seen leaving his residence on Beach Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday. According to First Coast News, Sermons is described as standing 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, with white hair.
The police department detailed that Sermons might be wearing a Jaguars shirt and hat, accompanied by black pants, and may have been traveling in a black 4-door Nissan Frontier pickup truck with Virginia tag WSK9670. By disseminating this information, authorities hoped to hasten Mr. Sermons's return to the safety and comfort of his home. Confirmation of his well-being was posted by the Atlantic Beach Police Department on their official Facebook page, as reported by WOKV.
The multi-channel approach to locate Sermons paid off, with the police department taking to social media to update the concerned public. "UPDATE...subject has been located and is safe," read a post on the Atlantic Beach Police Department's Facebook page, putting to rest the growing anxiety that accompanies such disappearances, especially in vulnerable individuals with conditions such as Alzheimer's.
